A New Chapter- A Renewed Kitchen

Our client was nearing retirement and questioned whether to stay put and remodel or sell her home and move to a smaller home. After giving it a lot of thought, the decision to stay put and remodel won out.

She felt her updated kitchen Renovision would provide a good ROI and help stand out to future prospective buyers; in the meantime, she planned on enjoying years with the beautiful new and restored space. A recent study from Houzz reports that “having a kitchen you love can impact your day-to-day life in positive ways”. Family time was top of mind for our client, so we collaborated with her regarding aging in place as well as family friendly modifications and considerations.

In the interest of opening the space, we removed the wall between the kitchen and adjacent dining room or “little room” as the clients call it. By removing the existing beadboard and skimming walls smooth, we changed up the look as well.

Building a half-wall with countertop accommodated an additional seating area and Allowed natural light from nearby windows to flood the kitchen and warm up the space. Under-cabinet lighting added even more light to the space, giving the kitchen a larger, airier feel. Also, the added ceiling recessed lights can be controlled with a dimmer switch, allowing client to set the mood. The client says she loves that corner because she and her husband sit there watching Jeopardy at night.

We found a way to make the kitchen more conducive to cooking and entertaining without expanding the footprint. This was addressed by creating more visual space through a more efficient layout and increased storage, as well as using natural light to make the kitchen feel brighter and more spacious.

Beautiful quartz countertops in rich gold and brown tones ties in nicely with the porcelain marble-look floor tiles. Selecting a tumbled mosaic mix of honed/non honed backsplash tiles was a great choice blending textures and undertones of similar colors.

The GE appliances in slate finish created a soft earthy feel and the brushed nickel hardware, stainless steel sink and faucet provides eye-candy to the room.

This client loves the new look, anticipates enjoying it in her retirement and already has plans to entertain her family over the holidays.

“My Christmas present to myself, a new kitchen! Thank you Renovisions, I love it!!”
